Mushroom picking

After the rain, the mushrooms appear!

Enjoy the fresh air

The pleasure of a walk

The leaves crunching under your feet, the scent of trees and fresh earth mingling together…

What a delight it is to go for a walk in the autumn!
Nature offers you all its calm. Sometimes a breeze blows, sometimes a bird sings and the leaves fall.

In autumn

Searching for mushrooms

How could you not want to find the mushrooms hidden under the branches and leaves, in the shade of the trees?

This is a treasure hunt where the ultimate aim is, of course, to enjoy yourself!

You’ll need to be careful, though, and only pick the varieties you know.

Varieties

Local mushrooms

Red mushrooms (delicious or bloody milk caps), Caesar’s mushrooms, ceps (Bordeaux), chanterelles, and more, there are so many varieties to be found.

Others are hiding in one corner or another! Picking mushrooms requires keen observation skills.

Happy hunting!

Truffles

There’s one mushroom that almost outshines all the others in its rarity and unique taste…

Let’s not forget that the truffle is indeed a mushroom! And what a mushroom it is.
They are grown in the Haut-Var, a region recognised as a “grand cru” for truffles in France.

So much so that during a weekend in early February, the Grimaud Tourist Office organises the “Truffe en fête” market, where you’ll find a host of truffle growers, as well as producers and craftspeople, selling tasty, handmade products. There are also events such as “cavage” demonstrations, where you can have a good time and take some goodies home with you.

Good to know

Mushrooms can’t be picked just anywhere, and you need to be very careful with the mushrooms you harvest. Take the time to consult the websites of the Office National des Forêts (ONF) and the Société Mycologique de France (SMF) to help you identify the varieties, so you can set off to conquer the woods while respecting the environment and the land.
