A living heritage

Grimaud’s architectural, cultural and historical heritage is showcased at a number of events. It’s an opportunity to learn more while enjoying some festive moments.

1. Fête du Moulin

Mill Festival

A mill in Provence… Nothing unusual!
Grimaud celebrates its mill every last Sunday in June with a range of events.
Tours are organised to explain how the mill works. You can also find out how the wheat was unloaded and even watch the bread being made (and taste it hot from the oven, of course!).
All this is accompanied by the Escandihado folk group and their Provençal dances.

2. Bonfires of Saint John

The ceremony begins with a procession through the village, complete with an aubade at the fountains and the blessing of St John’s Day stick bundles, all to music.
The procession then makes its way to the Notre-Dame de la Queste chapel, where a mass is celebrated. This is followed by Provençal dancing by the Escandihado folk group.
At the end of the evening, the Midsummer fire is lit, promising to protect the harvests from lightning and storms.
It is traditional to throw your stick bundle into the fire after making a wish.

3. Bastille Day and Guinguette

A great evening of red, white and blue awaits you in Grimaud!
Take a trip back in time to the days of the French Revolution and relive anecdotes from the municipal archives that actually happened in Grimaud.
A little later in the evening, another era takes over the village: the 1950s.
A convivial guinguette (tavern) evening awaits you for the traditional Bastille Day ball.

4. European Heritage Days

What better village than Grimaud to celebrate the European Heritage Days?
With a heritage dating back thousands of years, this Provençal village is showcasing its history this weekend.
Visits, activities, discoveries… Each year there is a new programme to explore Grimaud in a different way.

5. European Museum Night

Every year, the Musée du Patrimoine de Grimaud takes part in this European event, which aims to highlight these places of art and knowledge.
To mark the occasion, the museum is open for you to discover its permanent exhibition on life in Grimaud in days gone by, as well as other little surprises that change every year.

6. Salon des Santonniers

Santon Crafts Fair

The Provence santons (nativity figures): a must-see!
At the end of October, come and discover the art of santon-making and complete or start your own nativity scene.
Figures, buildings… many stalls with the best santonniers in Provence await you.
