Culture for everyone

Grimaud is keen to offer a wide range of cultural events throughout the year, for young and old alike. Exhibitions, literature, theatre and poetry are all on offer. All you have to do is choose!

1. Salon du livre jeunesse

Children’s book fair

Every year, on the first weekend in June, Grimaud hosts the Salon du Livre Jeunesse.
Around fifteen authors and illustrators come together to encourage a taste for reading from an early age. A host of activities take place over the weekend (workshops, shows, book signings, poetry and drawing competitions, etc.), and the fair welcomes some of the world’s best-known authors (Manon Fargetton, Pascal Brissy, Christophe Loupy, Alan Mets, etc.).

2. Sundays on stage

Theater festival

From October to April, Grimaud offers a monthly theatre event at the Salle Beausoleil for those who love funny or poignant plays.

Admission is free, but it is essential to book. Please contact the Culture and Heritage Department on +33 (0)4 94 55 57 37.

3. Exhibitions

Whether in exceptional sites such as the Heritage Museum, the Maison des Arcades or the Kilal, outside in the village, on its façades or in our art galleries: Grimaud loves art and demonstrates it.

Throughout the year, a succession of exhibitions showcase the work of talented painters, sculptors, jewellers and street artists.
Exhibitions such as “Grimaud Art Urbain” and “L’Exposition Monumentale” have become unmissable events in the region.

4. Literary adventures

Several times a year, the Culture and Heritage Department invites you to meet authors who come to talk about their inspiration and their writing process, and to present their book(s)…
These are moments when the boundaries of paper disappear and the public can meet and spend time with the authors.

The Escapades littéraires have welcomed big names such as Amélie Nothomb, Katherine Pancol, Marcus Malte, Frédéric Vitoux, as well as regular visitors such as Jean Siccardi and René Frégni, writers born and bred in Provence.

5. Partir en livre

Partir en livre is France’s major national children’s book festival.

Grimaud organises a fair on the theme of children’s books, so it’s only natural that the Médiathèque should join in this project every year, offering a range of workshops (artistic, storytelling, dramatised readings, etc.) on the annual theme chosen by the French Ministry of Culture.

6. Rire aux étoiles

Summer theater festival

Theatre in Grimaud is never far away!

After monthly events in the non-tourist season, four evenings of theatre under the stars (and under the bandstand in Place Neuve) take place at the beginning of July.

Often funny and quirky, the troupes and the plays promise a good time.

7. Les Nuits de la lecture

Every year during the winter, the French National Book Centre (CNL) invites literary figures to join in the Nuits de la lecture (reading nights), with the aim of contributing to the diversity and influence of literary creation and books in France and around the world.

A new theme is selected for each new edition, and the Grimaud Media Library is naturally on board.
Stories and readings are offered as part of this national event.

8. Printemps des Poètes

Once again, the Médiathèque de Grimaud is taking part in this national event, which has been running for over 25 years.
A veritable celebration of poetry, it’s an opportunity to deal with strong themes while showcasing the art of rhyme.

The Printemps des Poètes festival in Grimaud features writing workshops and musical entertainment.

9. Grimaud Europe lectures

Grimaud Europe is an extra-municipal committee that brings together foreigners who love Grimaud and have settled here.
The emphasis here is on cultural life and, several times a year, a guest speaker comes to share their knowledge in a wide range of fields: local history, moral issues, etc. We have had the honour of welcoming Nicole Fabre on several occasions. We’d like to thank and pay tribute to her.
She is a great lady who shared generously throughout her life.

8. Homage to Marcel Pagnol

Theater night

Theatre, always theatre! In Grimaud, we can’t live without it, and what better place than our Provençal village to pay tribute to one of France’s greatest writers?

In August, come and enjoy an evening of theatre at the château, in a marvellous setting that gives a very special echo to the texts of this great author, Marcel Pagnol, who knew so well how to depict the soul of Provence.
